‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ Welcomes Its First Customers
The world’s largest shopping centre for nearly 25 years, West Edmonton Mall welcomed its first customers in 1981. Developed over four phases in the 1980s and 1990s, the mall is now about 490,000 square metres in size and continues to be North America’s largest mall.
Built of steel, its clear-span, glazed, dome roof is carried on two-foot–deep, steel-plated, curved roof beams.
