Calling All Flying Saucers: Free Parking in St. Paul

There’s nothing else on Earth quite like it. St. Paul’s UFO landing pad, designed by Edmonton civil engineer Alex Mair, P.Eng., was built in 1967 to celebrate the Canadian Centennial.

The 130tonne, oval-shaped attraction features a giant map of Canada and blinking lights to guide lost Martians.

Besides his career in engineering, Mair was a noted historian, broadcaster, humorist, and newspaper columnist.

Dignitaries gather for the 1967 grand opening of the UFO landing pad in St. Paul, which was designed by Edmonton civil engineer Alex Mair, P.Eng. To date, no aliens have visited (that we know of).

Today, the landing pad includes a UFO tourist information centre to welcome visitors – from this world, or any other.
